Moving house is an exciting time. But it can leave you with a lot of questions, especially when venturing to a new location. Naturally, you’ll want to get clued up on what’s what around the area.

Although stepping foot into your new home and the new town is exciting, you might also feel a little worried. What if we don’t settle in quickly enough? How do we find out all the information we need? Well, that’s where we step in. We’ve put together this handy guide to all the social highlights of one of our favourite Wirral towns, Heswall.

The best places to eat and drink

Looking for a place to unwind after work or take the family on a Sunday? No matter how you like to enjoy your beverages and meals, there will be something to suit you in Heswall. We can almost guarantee it. If you’re after something exquisite, you can trust Burnt Truffle to serve up something special. A little on the pricier side but most definitely worth it – there’s a reason they’ve built up a cult following in the local area. We’re talking fresh sourdough, salt baked celeriac and whole roasted duck. Yum. In terms of a more family-friendly, moderately-priced affair, look to The Dee View Inn for great, hearty pub grub like burgers and pies.

Fancy an Indian or a Thai? Khrua Thai Orchid and Heswall Tandoori will satisfy your taste buds, every time. For cocktail nights or chilled evenings sipping gin and tonic, our favourites include Blind Pig and Otto Lounge. More of a tea and coffee lover? Heswall Coffee House will be right up your street – we particularly recommend the impeccable service from Neil and his team. Isabelle’s Tea Room is a great alternative and massively popular in town. Moral of the story is, there’s something for everyone. And we can guarantee you’ll never run out of new places to try.

Where to go at the weekends

Whether the kids are climbing the walls or you fancy a day out with a loved one, there’s plenty to do at the weekends in Heswall and the surrounding area. Of course, we’d be silly not to mention the beautiful beaches on the Wirral which are only a short distance from Heswall itself. Thurstaston Beach is just a ten-minute drive from the town centre and is a firm family favourite. Then, there’s West Kirby which can be reached after a fifteen-minute drive – its easy flat access from the pavement makes it very popular with both locals and visitors. Heswall Golf Club is a great alternative if you like being outdoors but don’t fancy the hustle and bustle of the seaside.

On a rainy day, why not take a twenty-minute drive to Bubbles’ World of Play to keep the kids entertained. Located in New Brighton, the soft play centre is suitable for 0-11 year-olds and has plenty to offer. For something a little less strenuous on the senses, we also recommend taking a stroll around Heswall itself and enjoying the local shops. Linghams Booksellers, Gould’s, Love Stitch and Whitmore & White are full of lovely gifts and hidden gems. And obviously, if you’re looking for a full day of shopping and culture, Liverpool is only 25 minutes away by car and 40 minutes by train!

Local schools and colleges

Unfortunately, the weekends always come to an end. Come Monday, you’ll want to know that your kids are attending good schools or colleges. Here are a few in the local area to consider. Heswall Primary School and St Peter’s C of E are popular choices for residents of the town. If you’ve got really little ones, it’s handy to know that there’s a pre-school playgroup within Heswall Primary schools – two birds with one stone! In terms of high schools, Pensby High School is the closest. There’s also Caldy Grange Grammar School just five minutes down the road. When the kids have flown the nest, it’s worth noting that the University of Chester, University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores are great options that aren’t too far from home.
